Queue management as a method of improving traffic conditions for buses on multi-lane streets

Abstract: The article examines the issue of assigning different types of vehicles to different lanes, referred to by the author as “vehicle queue management”, using the example of Nowohucka Street in Krakow. It is part of a master’s thesis, which also served as a basis for an article on segregated bus lanes with admission of other users and their marking in Polish cities. This publication will characterise the southern part of Nowohucka Street in Kraków. Data from bus time recorders will be used. Then, the proposed queuing management will be tested in a microsimulation model. In addition, proposed solutions to other problems identified in the vicinity for Kraków Public Transport bus travel will be briefly presented.

Eco-driving in practical terms

Abstract. Results of a survey conducted among drivers, including professional drivers, on the knowledge of the eco-driving concept, as well as the frequency of applying its principles while driving are presented in the article. The results of the survey allow an assessment of the effectiveness of measures taken in the country to promote eco-driving.

Key words: eco-driving, energy efficiency, eco-friendly driving, economical driving, energy-efficient driving

Study on the role of rail in intra-city travel on the example of the area of Złocień in Kraków

Abstract. The aim of this article is to present the impact of launching a railway stop serving an urban residential area on increasing the importance of railways in providing service to the city and changing the transport behaviour of the inhabitants of the area affected by the stop. A case study of the Złocień housing estate was analysed, for the operation of which, in November 2021, the Złocień railway stop was launched, included in the route of the third line of the Rapid Agglomeration Railway. An analysis was carried out of the dynamics of changes in the volume of passenger traffic at the newly-opened stop, based on the exchange of passengers using the trains of the carrier Małopolska Railway, and a survey was conducted among residents to identify the modes of transport chosen, both before and after the activation of the stop, as well as the preferences and expectations of residents in relation to travel. Based on this, past and present transport behaviour was analysed, and levels of satisfaction and preference were examined in relation to the operation elements of the connection and the Kraków Złocień stop, as well as  elements of integration with other modes of transport in the Złocień area. This allowed an examination of how the launch of the new stop influenced the transport behaviour of the residents of the area.

Podsudecka mainline in the Lower Silesian passenger rail system

Abstract: Railway line no. 137, called the Podsudecka Mainline, is a very important railway in Upper and Lower Silesia. Its characteristic element is that it runs parallel to the Sudetes and bypasses cities of Opole and Wrocław. Apart from the Katowice – Kędzierzyn-Koźle section, which plays an important role in passenger transport, the technical status of the railway is unsatisfactory and the number of connections on it is much smaller than the line’s capacity. There are cities located on the mainline like: Nysa, Ząbkowice Śląskie, Dzierżoniów, Świdnica, Strzegom and Jawor. At the same time, there are many railway junctions on the mainline that allow to change the direction, for example towards Wrocław and Wałbrzych, like nodes in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki and Jaworzyna Śląska. Moreover, together with railway line no. 289 on the Legnica – Rudna Gwizdanów section, the main road constitutes a bypass of the Wrocław subregion. The number of railway junctions along the line shows the communication potential there and possible multimodal solutions. The aim of the article is to present the concept of developing passenger connections on the Podsudecka Mainline in two scenarios containing the possibilities of modernizing the main line and creating peripheral connections connected with train to and from Wrocław. The article includes the analysis of the technical characteristics of railway line no. 137, existing passenger connections and connections at junctions and, based on the results, the concept of developing passenger rail connections, which is described and discussed in this article.
